You can now both start (IE power up) and stop (IE just like pulling the plug powering down) your groups virtual systems. You can also find out which systems are up, and which are down.

To do this you need to log on to cnt4504-a.cs.fiu.edu using the same username and password you use to access ocelot.aul.fiu.edu. On the system cnt4504-a.cs.fiu.edu there are 3 commands:

cnt4504-start-system

cnt4504-stop-system

cnt4504-system-status

The first two commands take one parameter and that is a system name (IE one of br,r1,r2,r3,ws0,ws1,ws2,ws3 or sw1) The last command above will show you the status of all the systems.

Note: sw1 is currently off and is not going to be used till lab 6 so you can and should leave it off till then)

The proper way to shutdown a system depends on the operating system of the machine. To do a clean shutdown you will want to log into the system you want to shutdown (br,r1,r2,r3,ws1,ws2,ws3 or sw1) and then at the command level (not config level) issue the command to restart the system.

br - request system reboot

r1,ws0,ws1,ws2,ws3 - reboot

r2,r3,sw1 - reload

After shutting them down you can use the cnt4504-start-system to restart the machine.

If for some reason you can not log into a system and initiate a clean shutdown, you can use the cnt4504-stop-system to "power off" the machine and then you can restart it.

The cnt4504-system-status command will list all your systems and there current status (running or shutdown)
