7 oz 55L British Crystal
1 oz Roasted Barley
1 oz Smoked malt
3.3 lbs John Bull light malt syrup
1 lb M&F light DME
.33 lb corn sugar
3 oz cane sugar
.75 oz E. Kent Goldings 6.7 AA 1 hr
.75 oz E. Kent Goldings 15 min
.5 oz E. Kent Goldings 2 min
.5 oz Fuggles 2 min
Wyeast 1728 Scottish Ale yeast
1 tsp Irish Moss
Steeped grains at 150F, added sugars, hopped per above schedule, added Irish Moss at 15 minutes to go, cooled, oxygenated and pitched yeast. O.S.G. was 1070, T.S.G. was 1014. Alcohol by volume was 7.35%!
We were hoping to hoping to get results to mirror that of of a McEwan's Export IPA, which is actually an 80 shilling Scottish, even tho they call it an IPA. We think we got pretty close, flavor profile-wise. We used the recipe on Clone Brews pg. 101. What we'd do different: We thought the flavor profile was good, but the beer was a little too big, so we'd probably cut the gravity a hair. 80 Shilling Scottish usually tops off at about 5.5%. It's awesome for noncompetitive quaffing, though.
That's it, though! We powered through that batch faster than a Kilted Scotsman after tossing telephone poles!
