Recipe

Ordinary Bitter — Sore Loser Bitter (3 gal.)

by Chris & Jake

First place
March 2002 MASH BOTY Competition

4 oz 55L Crystal
2.5 oz Torrified Wheat
.5 oz Roasted Barley
3 lbs M&F Extra Light DME
1 oz N. Brewer 7.4 AA 1 hr
.5 oz N. Brewer 15 min
.5 oz E. Kent Golding 15 min
.5 oz N. Brewer 2 min
Wyeast 1275 Thames Valley

Steeped grains, added sugars, hopped per above hopping schedule. Cooled, oxygenated and pitched yeast. O.S.G. 1044, T.S.G. 1008. Alcohol by volume is 4.5%.

This brew was inspired based on "Bluebird Bitter" from Beer Captured, pg. 59. This was converted down to a 3 gallon recipe. We hit the original and terminal gravities pretty much right on. Plus, we like it a lot, so it won't be around long. What would we do differently? Frankly, we think this brew was great, so we wouldn't anything differently when we plan to make another ordinary bitter.
