The winners of the 7th Annual Coconut Cup have been posted. Congratulations to everyone and many thanks to all of our sponsors, especially Titanic Brewery & Restaurant.
The Coconut Cup has come and gone and, overall, it was a great success. We had 154 entries (the most ever!) from 12 different states. Twelve different homebrew clubs from across the country participated, as did many non-affiliated individuals. We started judging around 9:30 and finished the Best of Show shortly after 6:00. It was a long day for all, but it seemed to be enjoyable. Thanks to everyone who gave up their Saturday to make this thing happen. Thanks to Darryl for arranging the transportation to FabFest. Special thanks to Kevin, Steve, Amanda, and the staff at Titanic for being such generous and patient hosts. The raffle was a big hit; I think everyone who bought a ticket won something. Big, big thanks to all the sponsors who donated such great schwag.
All hail Patrick Gibson, king of the Coconut Cup. Marvel at his brewing prowess as he scores Best of Show his first time out. If you ask nicely, he may pour you a beer from his new Best of Show glass pitcher. Oooh. Aaaah. Congratulations, Patrick!
We had several people asking about homebrewing during the Coconut Cup. We tried to be ambassadors for brewing and gave them information about the club. Hopefully the interested folks will show up at the next meeting.
At the last meeting, we decided to make some changes to the Brewer of the Year (BotY) competition. We changed a few of the categories for this year and club members volunteered to lead talks on the style of the month. The talks are in an effort to focus on educating ourselves about the specifics of the beer styles. This month's style is stout and Patrick, king of the Coconut Cup, will be conducting the lesson.
We also agreed that we would modify the points awarded for out-of-club competition wins. First place will be worth five points, second place worth three, and third place worth one. Three points would be awarded for Best of Show. Five points would be awarded for any medal in A.H.A. Regional or National competitions. The competition page of the website has been updated to reflect the changes.
Thanks again, everyone, for all your help and support with the Coconut Cup. It's time to focus on ourselves as a club and see what we can do. Cheers!
