It was great to see you all at the first MASH meeting of the year. We had some people we had not seen in a while and we had some new faces as well. I hope all of you continue to come to all the meetings.
We held the officers meeting at Gordon Biersch. The meeting went well and we got a lot of good ideas for the up and come year. I would like to thank all the officers for attending and a very big thanks to Jay the brewer at Gordon Biersch for hosting us in grand style.
Our very own web lackey Eric Johnson has been making changes to the web site. He is updating all of the information and making it easier to find the information. He is working on a “members only section” so you can post and look up recipes. We will also post information that we do not want the public to see.
Do you know why they call it a “member’s only section”?
Because that is its name.
Come on people have a homebrew and catch up.
The list of beers that we are making for the National Homebrew Convention Club Night has taken shape. It all depends on if we make ten-gallon batches or five-gallon batches of each type or any combination of. The beers have to be ready in five months so if you are brewing one of them give your self-enough time. Please supply me with the list of ingredients long before you need them.
Here is what we have so far:
Barlywine brewed by Eric Johnson.
Buckwheat Honey Stout brewed by Russell Everett.
Coconut Cream Ale brewed by Darryl Hickey.
Kaffir Lime Wheat brewed by Denise & Scott Graham.
Lemongrass Mead brewed by Mark Kelly.
Alternates: Ice Mead, Key Lime Mead, Coffee Mead, Eisbock
We still need more subjects for tech talks. The February tech talk will be on the importance of oxygenation in the wort; this will be presented by our very own Meredith Everett. Other topics that have been suggested are: Use of a Hopback, Going All Grain, First Wort Hopping and Dry Hopping. If any of you know or want to research these topics and give a ten-minute talk on them please contact me.
We have pushed the Pub-crawl till August. We also need some one to step up to the mug and coordinate this event with the Titanic.
We are looking at a brew day in the near future, details to follow.
On to the
BOTY: January’s
BOTY style was Light Hybrid and we had four entries. Denise &
Scott took first place. Second and third place winners have not
e-mailed there recipes to Eric (Email esj@cs.fiu.edu)
so no points can be awarded.
Oh did you not get the memo? In order to get points for any BOTY or outside competition you must post your recipe(s) on our web site. Also please only enter beers that fit the style of that month. Next months BOTY style is English Brown Ale BJCP category 11.
We will see you all at the meeting and remember bring your BOTY beers and any other beers you want the group to taste.
On that special day February 14 AKA Valentines Day may you and your sweetheart have a homebrew that was made with love, Happy Valentines Day.
You’re President
