PRESIDENTS MESSAGE FOR JULY

At our June meeting we had thirteen members present. The topic that took up must of the time was the up and coming National Mead Day it will be held on August 4, 2007 at 09:00am at Scott and Denise Grahams house. We agreed that the individuals that will be making mead would supply the ingredients for the mead. We would like to make different types of meads so those who attend can see the different processes you use. Remember the spirit of National Mead Day, to gather meaders and non-meaders for a mead making session and mead tasting. If you know anybody interested in mead bring him or her. And must important let’s have fun. I will be making a honey run later in the month so if you need me to pick up some for you please contact me via e-mail, phone or in person.

We discussed our web site. Our new domain name is Miami-Homebrew.org. So make sure you bookmark it and if you use it in your e-mail signature or on letterhead please make the appropriate changes.

We revisited the BOTY schedule for the months of September and November. There was concern that the Bock and Pilsner categories would not draw enough entries due to lagering during the Hurricane season. Well after much debate and staying with the spirit of the BOTY which is to get our members to try brewing different styles of beer we decided to leave the scheduled categories as is. So get those bocks and pilsners in the fermenters now.

A motion was brought up to change our December BOTY style from holiday spiced brews to gluten free beers. We have had holiday spiced brews for several years as our December style and it is time to try something new. We will need to do some research and exchange information with each other to have a good showing. The gauntlet has been set.

June's BOTY style was Fruit beers BJCP category 20. We had one entry by Russell. It was a Raspberry Double Hefe Weizin. Great job Russell for your entry as usual you have kept brewing where so many of us have not. (Maybe I should go to law school.) I know it is summer vacation time and all, but we need to have a better showing of beers for the monthly BOTY. So start brewing. Thanks to the members that brought the fine selection of commercially brewed fruit beer for us to taste.

This month's style is Strong Ale BJCP Category 19. I know there has to be a couple of strong ales out there so bring them on.

Two in the fermenter and four in the keg is a wonderful thing.

Your President
