President's July Message

Well the Summer Solstice party has come and gone and what a party it was, with many different beers to try and delicious food to eat. I don't know how I was able to keep my manly figure. We also celebrated Eric's birthday and I know by the time I left he was not feeling any pain. I still do not have the results of the guitar hero playoff but I am sure you are all winners. Second round will be held at MEAD day if someone will bring the program, guitars and controller. I would like to thank our generous host Eric and Caroline for a wonderful time. All of the members of Miami Area Society of Homebrewers thank you too.

Mead Day is coming up on July 26, it will be held at the Hickey Family Brewing and Meadery starting at 10:00am. We will be making six different meads of unknown recipes as of this posting. We have Russell, Bob, Scott/Denise, Eric, Peter and I scheduled to make mead. I will be making arrangements to pick up the honey soon. As usual with a MASH event please bring a cover dish for lunch and beer and or meads for your thirst. There will be a grill available and if there is any other special needs please contact me before hand. Mead making will commence at 10:00 am rain or shine. Lunch will be served around 12:00 pm and merriment will be all day. If you have any suggestion you can contact the group or me. Remember bring anyone who may be interested in making mead and let' have a good time.

There are some up and coming competitions that we should send entries to and try to attend. These competitions will need judges and stewards so if you have the time and can make the trip plan on going. The first one is a new competition to the Florida Circuit and is being run by CASK in Jacksonville and held on August 30. CASK sent entries and a judge to our competition this year and can use our support.

The BOTY style for June was BJCP category 15 German Wheat and Rye beer which includes 15A Weizen/Weissbier, 15B Dunkelweizen, 15C Weizenbock and 15D Roggenbier (German Rye Beer). As I preach every month BREW BREW and BREW some more, but we still only had two entries. Second place went to Brain for his Dunkle Weizen beer and first went to Russell for his Hefeweizen beer, congradulations. This months BOTY style is BJCP category 14 India Pale Ale (IPA) which includes 14A English IPA, 14B American IPA and 14C Imperial IPA. I think our turn out will be just a little better then last month being that we have a lot of hop heads in our membership.

We are approaching our annual membership renewal which is the month of August. We have started collecting already so bring to the meeting or send your payment of $35.00 USD to me and enjoy another great year.

SEE YOU AT MEAD DAY!
Your President,
Darryl Hickey
