Presidents Message for March
Our February meeting was held at the Titanic and saw us with eleven members and one guest in attendance. I would like to start by thank Denise for all her work as the Coconut Cup’s chairperson and making this years competition a great success. She assembled a team of dedicated people who put in many days of hard work to make the competition work, thank you all. I would like to thank all of the judges and stewards, especially the ones form out of town. We had judges come from Palm Beach Draughtmans, Fort Lauderdale Area Brewers and two came all the way from New Orleans, thank you.
The BOTY for February went to Russell Everett for his "Kilt Lifter" Scottish ale. Second place went to Russell Everett for his "It's Crap" Scottish ale and third place went to Darryl Hickey for my "I want to be an Export" Scottish ale. Let's get brewing for next months BOTY!!! Which is BOTY the style is Porter category 12. This is a good old standard style so let's see if we can get at least four entries this month.
Big Beer is coming the first weekend in May so start thinking about when, where and what to brew. The AHA has not posted the recipes yet so we may want to come up with some recipes on our own.
Our friends to the north are holding the Hurricane Blowoff on 03/31/2007. Entries are due from March 3 till March 23. See their web site for more details and send your entries in. Also plan to go up and joint in the fun of judging, stewarding and tasting beers.
The 29th Annual AHA National Homebrew Competition. The entry deadline is April 2 - 13, 2007 so if any of you have a beer that is so good and you some bottles to spare send them in.
Ok March is the best month due to the fact that Saint Patrick's Day fells in it. Being that all of us are of Irish decent (at least in March we are) I would like to wish you all a happy Saint Patrick's Day. Don't over do, it just do it.
Darryl Hickey
