Six MASHers drove up to West Palm Beach to enjoy the hospitality of the Palm Beach Draughstmen as they hosted the 2002 Hurricane Blowoff. We all had a great time juding and visiting with other brewers from around the state. Congratulations to the Grahams, who brought home a first place for their IPA and a second place for their Dopplebock, to the Berryman/Graham team, who brought home a second place for their Chocolate Cherry Stout, and to Peter Buschbaum, who brought home a pair of third places for his Robust Porter and his Wee Heavy.
Thanks to all of the Palm Beach Draughstmen for showing us a good time!
Greetings and salutations!
This message is catching up on two months, so I need first to mention the Coconut Cup. Congratulations to all who took awards, MASHers and all others who supported our competition. As we all know, MASH once again held the Cup, which is currently at the engraver to reflect the 2002 win. The number of entries grew again this year and we got some gift items, including the generous donation of a gift certificate from Jeff at Home Brewer's Warehouse for the Best of Show. We also had great support from the Palm Beach Draughtsmen, both entries and judges; I encourage all to participate in the upcoming PBD Hurricane Blowoff, as entrants, judges, stewards and/or attendees if at all possible, the Draughtsmen run a nice event.
Congratulations to Bob Beard for his win at the State Fair. Bob and the team of Scott and Denise Graham have taken early leads in the B.O.T.Y competition for 2002, but there's still plenty of time for the rest of us. Looks like AHA competitions will be the crucial wins for the taking of the B.O.T.Y again this year, as in the past few; I think it is great that so many of us are entering other AHA competitions.
Big Brew Day is scheduled for May 4, 2002 and they have published extract and all-grain recipes for two styles, an Old Ale and a Maibock this year. For more info and the recipes, you can check out the AHA Big Brew page. We'll discuss Big Brew at the next club meeting.
Lastly, we are still open to suggestions for meeting sites. The Old Cutler Inn has been a good location on many points, but is a bit difficult for some of our members who live in the more northern parts of the county; if you've got any places that look workable, please e-mail me or the MASH list, or make the suggestion to any of the officers of the club.
Hope to see everyone next meeting.
Brew On!
