Congratulations to Bob Beard, who took 2nd place in Belgian and French Ales with his Witbier at the 2002 Spooky Brew Review!
Some MASH members attended this year's Great American Beer Festival. Some pictures from the trip can be found on the MASH Pictures page. Use the arrows on the page to navigate from one picture to the next.
Congratulations to Bob Beard, who took 1st place in two flights at the 2002 Brewer's Dream homebrew competition with his Bitter and his Witbier.
The Finals for the 2003 Coconut Cup will be held on February 1st, 2003. The competition will be open to all categories and will be AHA Sanctioned. More details will be available soon.
Greetings and Good Beer to all!
The summer has come to a close and the national alert has been downgraded from Orange to Yellow, so I have emerged from my "undisclosed location" and can once again post a long-overdue President's message; I've got a few things to catch up on.
Thanks go out to Sean Hickey for his gracious hosting of our Summer picnic (with the help of parents Darryl and Raquel). A good time was had by all and the rain held until it broke up. Our second yeast comparison went well, although all versions of the Maibock seemed to finish on the sweet side.
We have had to bid a farewell to Jamie and Johnell as she has been promoted and transferred out-of-state; we will certainly miss them and we will now declare Jamie a lifetime member of MASH. Steve Copeland, previously a brewer at the Firehouse brewery will be taking over the brewery at the Titanic and we know he will carry on the reputation of wonderful beers started by Jamie; Kevin assures us that the established brews at the ship will continue, as well as some of the seasonals Jamie has created over the years, as well as giving Steve freedom to introduce his own creations and variations. Let us all welcome Steve heartily.
On other MASH concerns, coming up we have elections for next year's officers; please be thinking how you may wish to help out or who should be nominated into the various posts. We need to start planning for the Coconut Cup 2003, choosing beers, competition date and other concerns, and, of course, start brewing entries for the competition. Of course, the Oktoberfest season is now upon us and several events have been already mentioned on our MASH e-mail list; any others not yet mentioned, please submit info to the list, please. It looks like we will now be meeting on Mondays at the Titanic, I have been there a couple of Monday evenings during the football season already, and at least earlier in the evening prior to kickoff, the noise level is low enough to allow our business to be conducted; the general meeting may be moved to a different Monday than the last of the month, we will be discussing that further at the general meeting; hope to see all there.
Now that the weather is cooling some and the rain should soon start to abate some, outdoor brewing becomes a bit easier, the lawn won't grow as fast and I, for one, should be brewing a bit more often. Those of us who grow a vegetable garden should be getting those going, and the couple of folks who have tried to put in some hops should be facing harvest soon; I hope to hear some updates on those hop crops soon.
Keep those airlocks popping!
