Distributed Systems - Principles and Paradigms by Andrew S. Tanenbaum and Maarten van Steen, Prentice Hall 2002 (ISBN: 0-13-088893-1).

Prerequisite
COP 4610 (Operating Systems Principles) or equivalent.

Description
Advanced topics in operating system design; distributed systems and middleware; parallel computing;  issues from concurrency control, replication management, and fault-tolerance; system case study. Each student will also conduct a term project on distributed congestion control. Quizzes will be given in some classes.
