Hi MASHers,

We'll have a lot to discuss at our monthly meeting this Tuesday, 2/23, at Titanic. Remember that the BotY category is BJCP category 15, German Wheat and Rye Beer. Bring your entries or your "sharing beers" for feedback and the competition.

This month, almost everything is about the Coconut Cup.

We're already receiving electronic entry forms and expect to start receiving boxes of entries anytime now. Florida's Underground Beer Railroad has been activated and should bring a good number of bottles our way. If this turns out to be more entries than we expect, one or more of you may get a panicked call asking for assistance in moving entries down the tracks.

Depending on the final number of entries received, we'll plan some preliminary judging sessions so we can ensure that we have a manageable amount of judging to do on the 12th and 13th of March. Be on the lookout for an e-mail asking your availability starting 3/6 so we can organize those preliminary sessions.

The Coconut Cup itself will be held at two different locations. We'll have a judging session at someone's house on Friday, 3/12, and will follow that up with a recommended trip to a good beer location or two. On Saturday, 3/13, we'll start off bright and early (9:00) at the South Miami / Coral Gables Elk's Lodge, 6304 Southwest 78th Street, South Miami, FL. We'll judge a flight or two, have some lunch, judge another flight or two, hold the beer and mead/cider best in show panels, and then finish up with an awards ceremony and raffle.

Please get your electronic entries in as soon as possible and please plan to get your bottles to me no later than March 5th.

Other things are going on around the state. The Best Florida Beer Competition is underway; good luck to all who entered! The Palm Beach Draughtsmen have announced that this year's Hurricane Blowoff will be held April 23-24, 2010, so please mark your calendars accordingly. National Homebrew Day is May 1st; the AHA has released this year's recipes, so please think about what we'd like to do as a club.

Cheers,
Scott
