PRESIDENT'S JUNE MESSAGE

As I am packing for my vacation I was thinking of all the brewpubs I will be visiting and the countless beers I will be tasting and then it hit me!!! The monthly President message has not been written.

Last months meeting found us recapping the 2008 AHA Big Brews success and the beer will be bought to the Summer Solstice party this month for all to try. Thanks to Scott and Denise for hosting the event and thanks to Russell for organizing the event.

We discussed the up and coming Mead Day that the AHA has set for August 2 this year. If any of you have other dates in mind or any suggestions on location, food and recipes please forward them to me so I can include them in next months meeting notes for discussion. We will finalize the plans for that event at our June meeting.

Summer Solstice party is set and this year Eric and Caroline have agreed to host the event. The date selected is June 28 starting at 1:00pm. As usual you bring a cover dish which can be coordinated with Eric, you know we don't want everybody bring goat cheese dip. The next thing is the beers yes I said BEERS, note the S. As this is a social event for the Miami Area Society of Homebrewers I think everybody should bring beers. We will see you all there for fun and merriment.

The BOTY style category was 18 Belgian Strong Ale. We had three entries one from Russsell one from Scott and Denise and one from myself. All of them were very tasty and with in style guide lines so the judging was hard but at last we came to a final order. In third place are Scott and Denise with their Belgian golden strong ale. In second place was my Belgian strong dark ale and in first place was Russell with his Belgian dark strong ale.

This month's BOTY style is 15 German Wheat and Rye beer which includes 15A Weizen/Weissbier, 15B Dunkelweizen, 15C Weizenbock and 15D Roggenbier (German Rye Beer). So get mashing, hopping, boiling, stirring, fermenting, bottling, kegging and any other thing you do to brew these beers.

Have a good end of school year and will see you at the June meeting.
