President's Message

It's September and school is back is session. We're rapidly approaching the end of the year and there is still lots left to do.

The Great American Beer Festival will run from September 30 - October 2, 2004 in Denver, Colorado. Several of the club members have been in the past. It's a great experience and well worth attending.

Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day is scheduled for November 6th. This would be a great opportunity to introduce new people to our club.

The club only competition for September/October is Smoke-Flavored and Wood-Ages beers. We had smoked beers as our BoTY category last month, but it appears that wood-aged beers have been added. If you have a wood-aged beer you would like to enter, bring it to the September meeting.

September's BoTY beer is Porter and the October BoTY beer is IPA. You still have time to brew a Strong Belgian for the November BoTY competition. This year's BoTY is a tight race. Three brewers have a mathematical chance to take the prize this year on BoTY competitions alone. It will likely go right down to the wire. Check out the standings on the competition page.

Don't forget the Hogtowne Brew-Off scheduled for October16, 2004. Entries will be accepted starting September 15th - the entry deadline is October 3rd. Please support a fellow club and former MASH member; send as many entries as you can. It's also a great event to attend. The Gators game that was cancelled due to Hurricane Frances has been resecheduled for the Brew-Off weekend, so that will affect hotel availability. Keep checking their website for updates.
