9/28/1996 - This was my first dedicated Linux box. It was a 386 with 5MB of RAM and a 20MB ST-225 MFM hard drive. To get a linux install on the thing, I started with a Slackware rootdisk and added what I needed to it (namely, NAT tools and TinyFugue). A very raw system, but it did what I wanted and handled PPP dialup a lot better than Windows did! It also used a CGA monitor, as I couldn't afford a better monitor for it at the time. This ran alongside the 486 in the previous picture.
