This is a nice High Speed pinball machine. Released in January 1986, this Steve Richie-designed game is a groundbreaking game setting the stage for pinball design over the next twenty years. Undeniably, it is the quintessential mid-80s pinball machine. High Speed featured a host of firsts:
High Speed one of the fastest games from the 80s, with great flow. It has a great mix of music, sound effects and speech with a simple rule set: Light the green, yellow, then red lights, then run the red light via the ramp. A wide open playfield allows fast shots. Shooting a screaming left orbit shot and slamming it up the ramp is very satisfying. The beacon police light on the backbox tells the world you are rocking when you run the red light and score the jackpot. Great jackpot sounds and light show to boot! Neat rearview mirror on backglass. Rev the engine and rpm bonus lights with the flippers when the ball is ready to be shot into play. Overall it's a great game with everything required for fun.
The game is in excellent working condition and plays fast. The displays are all bright and the beacon police light works. A remote battery pack has been installed and the MPU board is clean. We also added the two fuses in the backbox recommended to fix the original design flaw in the bridge rectifier circuit.
The backglass is very nice with only a couple of very unnoticable scratches. The playfield is also in excellent condition, with very little wear (especially for a High Speed), but there is a small spot where a post was added between the flippers. We removed the post but it can be reinstalled. The cabinet is in very good condition, but it seems that a previous owner attempted a cleaning job on the front that removed some paint. Fortunately, most of the paint loss is in the blacks and can be easily touched up if desired. The sides are in very nice condition. The game comes with original instruction card and a hi score card.
