PuTTY Secure Shell software configuration for Windows ===================================================== Save putty.exe in any folder within any partition and create a shortcut for this file on the desktop/StartMenu. Modify Default Settings configuration (only once) as below: Double click on this shortcut - Click on "SSH" radio button (right side) - Select "Keyboard" on the left panel - Click on "Control-H" radio button (right side) - Select "Colours" on the left panel Highlight "Default Foreground" (right side) Click "Modify" button Enter "255" for Red, 170 for Green and 0 for Blue Click "Add to Custom Colors" button Click on the amber color squre (below Custom colors:) Click OK - Select "Appearance" on the left panel Click "Change..." button If HE_TERMINAL Font is not available, install it as below: * download the HE_TERMINAL font (tt0596m_.tff) from the same webpage to C:\Windows\Fonts * Start -> Control Panel -> Fonts -> File -> Install New Font... browse and select the file tt0596m_.tff and click OK Choose "Font" as HE_TERMINAL Choose "Font style" as Regular and "Size" as 16 Click OK - Select "Session" on the left panel - Select "Default Settings" (right side) - Click "Save" button To connect to a Unix/Linux server, In "Host Name" box, enter username@machinename.fiu.edu (e.g. jdoe001@ocelot.aul.fiu.edu) In "Saved Sessions" box, enter machinename (e.g. ocelot) Click "Save" button High light the desired machine name Click "Open" button For the first time connection to the host, a PuTTY Security Alert Window will pop Click "Yes" button Now you are set to use the Secure Shell telnet software.
