Dear Prabu: I am attaching a ppt file with 2 flowcharts showing possible plans for a student to get a Bioinformatics degree. Let me know if you have questions. I am out of town until Thursday and am unable to attend your committee meeting tomorrow. But I hope the following explanation is clear for now. Best regards, --giri ============================================================= 1. BS in CS with Bioinformatics Track: - Replace CEN 4015 with a new undergrad course "Introduction to Bioinformatics" and CEN 4021 with a new course "Projects in Bioinformatics". - The Science Electives are required to be the 2 courses -- PCB 3063 and PCB 4524, along with their respective labs (total of 8 credit hours). - Remove PHY 2049 as a required course. This was necessary since the suggestion above replaced two 3-credit courses with two 4-credit courses. Removing PHY 2049 may cause some problems. But I do not know of a way around this problem. - Replace the Elective list with a set of courses from the Biology and Chemistry departments. 2. BA in IT (Double Major Option) This is meant to attract strong Biology majors. Their major includes Calculus 1 & 2, Statistics courses. - Need PCB 4524 as a Molecular Biology Elective - Replace COP 2250 with COP 2210 (Prog I) - Replace MAD 1108 with MAD 2104 (Disc Math) - Replace COP 3804 with COP 3337 (Prog 2) - Replace CGS 4825 with COP 3530 (Data Str.) - In the elective sequence, they are required to take "Intro to Bioinformatics" and "Projects in Bioinformatics", two new undergrad courses.
