Subject: CS requirements From: Mark Allen Weiss Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2010 14:49:29 -0400 (EDT) To: Tim Downey CC: Nagarajan Prabakar , Norman D Pestaina Prabu, Norman: I had thought that CNT-4513 was removed from the Set 1 elective list; however, I just checked 2009-2010 Bulletin #5, and it was not removed. Also CAP-4770 (Data Mining) and CEN-4072 (Software Testing) are not listed as acceptable Set 1 electives, and CDA-4400 is listed, even though it hasn't been taught in ages. We will need to repair this by 2010-2011 Bulletin #5 to be effective Fall 2011, perhaps in conjunction with merging Set 1 and Set 2. We will accept CAP-4770 and CEN-4072 as valid electives. I would also like to add language to the catalog that definitively states that the list of electives is subject to change at any time. Thus in the future, if we decide in 2013 for example that COP-4XXX is no longer a valid elective for CS majors, students who have not already taken COP-4XXX cannot demand to subsequently take it on the grounds that their catalog year was 2011 and it was legal then. Of course students who already took a course prior to it being declared invalid would still be able to count it. --Mark On Sat, 30 Oct 2010, Tim Downey wrote: > If CS students are taking CNT4513 this term, will it apply to their degree?
