Subject: Three items to be addressed by the SCIS Undergraduate Committee/ENC3249, COT3100, COP2210 From: Tiana Solis Date: 7/24/2018 2:37 PM To: Prabakar , Erica Levy CC: "chens@cs.fiu.edu" Dear Prabu and Erica, Below are SCIS pending items for you  to address and update in the catalog: 1)  COP2210:  You led the efforts of having MAC1140 (Precalculus Algebra) to be a strict prerequisite for COP2210.  If I am not mistaken, this should be in effect in Spring 2019. The University is phasing MAC1140 though so, please add (modify, ...)  MAC1147 as a prerequisite.  So, the pre-requisite is MAC1140  OR MAC1147. 2) COT3100: When we started this course, the pre-requisites are (still but advisors make exceptions which are unnecessary overheads) MAC1105 AND COP2210.  After one semester, the professors: Mark Finlayson, Antonio Bajuelos and Masoud Milani agreed that the COP2210 should be a co-requisite (being taken at the same time/concurrently) instead of a strict prerequisite. 3) ENC3249 vs ENC3213  (Professional Technical Writing).  For now, CS (BA or BS) students must take ENC3249 only. IT students can take either ENC3213 or ENC3249. If a CS student takes ENC3213, he/she also needs to take COM3100 to satisfy the ENC3249.  This is because of the old catalog before Fall 2010. The English department has been telling students that ENC3249 and ENC3213 are the same so why they are taking another course? One English Advisor also contacted me about this.  I forwarded emails before but I will resend it for your documentation.   With Excess Credit Surcharges and the push to graduate students on time, we need to implement one of the following:     a) Have a conversation with the English Department to only offer one-course number to avoid confusion either ENC3213 or ENC3249  OR     b) We let our CS students take either ENC3213 or ENC3249.  If choosing this option, make sure that it does not affect our CS BS ABET accreditation. Regards, Tiana
