UGC Meeting-4: 10/1/18 10:30am - noon ECS-349 Present: Bill, Erica, Pat, Prabu, Rick, Ruth, Tim Agenda: 1. Assessment related written/oral communication for - IT BS/BS-online: For written and oral communication evaluation of IT-BS majors, their assessment in CGS-3095 will provide these results. - CGS 3095: Computing majors (CS:BA/BS/BAonline, IT:BS/BSonline) complete this required course for their degree programs. The faculty who teach this course are requested to group the students according to their majors from class roster and submit one assessment report for each of these degree programs. - CS BA Online: As mentioned above, CGS-3095 will provide both written & oral communication evaluation. - IT BA/BAonline: CEN-3721 (Human Computer Interaction) will provide both written & oral communication evaluation. 2. Combining several sections of the same course with increased LA/grader support Budget deficit and increased number of students https://case.fiu.edu/_assets/pdfs/case-faculty-differential-assignment-policy-updated.pdf CS/IT programs require labs and grading programs for large number of students. UGC suggests that class size needs to be capped at 50 with no LA/grader support. Identify how other schools support faculty who teach large classes with TA/LA/Grader support and course compensation formula. Are these classes taught by adjunct or regular faculty? What are the metrics used on these courses. Suggest to assign the large size courses to all faculty in a rotation manner. Large classroom availability is a concern. Without appropriate support (compensation, graders) for large class teaching, The teaching quality will suffer that will in turn affect the metric.
