Introduction
The Desktop and User Support group is a part of the Computing
Support Group in the School of Computer Science at Florida International
University. The role of the Desktop group is to provide
help and support with computing and technical questions, to the user base
of the School. Catherine Hernandez manages the Desktop group and Pierre Schoepp supervises the the support teams. Our services are outlined on this site, but we invite you to stop by our office in ECS 265 if you have questions or are just curious about our operation. Routine help requests and trouble reports should be mailed directly to the Request Queue at request@cs.fiu.edu.
Steve Luis is the Associate Director for Computing Technology for the
School and manages the whole of the Computing Support Group.
In addition, Steve manages the Business Desk and the Development Team.
The Distributed Systems and Networking group, managed by Eric Johnson,
is responsible for the administration, infrastructure and networking
needs of the School.
Mission
The Desktop group is staffed by university students who
are learning their profession while also learning about business
operations. With this in mind we have a mission that is twofold:
Service: The Desktop group strives to provide excellent customer
service in the timeliest manner. Our staff will present a professional
appearance and attitude and conduct their work with respect and courtesy
for their clients and coworkers. The Desktop staff is responsible to
grow their knowledge and apply newly acquired skills in their work.
Environment: The Desktop group strives to provide the best possible
work environment for its members. We nurture a learning environment
where our students can explore their craft to gain knowledge and
experience. We work to provide an environment that fosters opportunities
for professional growth, and circumstances that support technical
exploration and investigation.
