SITUATION: SIXTEEN 4.25
BY 5.5 INCH POINT MARKERS WITH A 4 LETTER CODE HAVE BEEN
PREPOSITIONED THROUGHOUT THE PARK. THE MARKERS ARE TIED TO TREES OR OTHER
OBJECTS
AT APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET FROM THE GROUND. THE POINT MARKERS ARE NOT NECESSARILY
IN
LINE OF SIGHT OF YOUR MOST LIKELY DIRECTION OF APPROACH TO THE POINT. POINTS
ARE
NUMBERED 1 - 16 AND ASSIGNED VALUE POINTS BASED DIFFICULTY OF BEING FOUND
AND
DISTANCE FROM THE START POINT.
MISSION: YOUR TEAM MUST LOCATE AS MANY OF THE
16 POINTS AS POSSIBLE WITHIN A 30
MINUTE TIME PERIOD WITHOUT REPEATING A POINT.
EXECUTION: ORIENTEERING TEAMS MUST BE COMPRISED
OF 2 OR MORE CADETS. NO CADETS WILL
BE ON THE COURSE ALONE. THE TEAM WILL BE GIVEN 4 MAPS DESIGNATING THE GENERAL
LOCATION
OF THE SIXTEEN POINTS AND THE POINT VALUE OF EACH POINT. THE TEAM WILL ALSO
BE GIVEN 4
RECORDING FORMS TO RECORD THE 4 LETTERED CODE LOCATED AT EACH POINT. POINTS
WILL BE
APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET HIGH ON TREES, POSTS, BUILDINGS AND ANY OTHER STRUCTURE.
POINTS
WILL BE MARKED WITH A 4.25 BY 5.5 INCH BRIGHT YELLOW SIGN CONTAINING A 4 LETTER
CODE
WHICH MUST BE RECORDED IN THE APPROPRIATE SPACE ON THE RECORDING FORM. THE
TEAM
CAPTAIN WILL BE GIVEN 2 MINUTES TO PLAN HIS STRATEGY. AFTER THE 2 MINUTES,
THE EVALUATOR
WILL SAY GO AND THE CLOCK WILL START. THE CLOCK WILL STOP IMMEDIATELY UPON
THE ARRIVAL
OF THE LAST CADET INTO THE STAGING ARE. CREDIT WILL NOT BE GIVEN FOR DUPLICATED
POINTS AND
A 1 POINT PENALTY WILL BE GIVEN FOR EVERY 30 SECONDS OR FRACTION THEREOF BEYOND
THE 30
MINUTES. ALL RECORDING FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN TO ANY OF THE SITE EVALUATORS
AT THE START
POINT. PRINT CLEARLY! ILLEGIBLE MARKINGS WILL BE COUNTED WRONG.
ANY TEAM WHOSE 8 MEMBERS ARE NOT IN WITHIN
40 MINUTES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED
AND RECEIVE 0 POINTS FOR THIS EVENT.
