Obtaining Computer Accounts

Obtaining an account in the School of Computer Science academic labs is a simple matter. You must meet these two conditions:

  • Enrollment in an eligible CS Course
  • Have an active and valid solix ("unixshell") account

Eligible courses include all graduate and most undergraduate Computer Science courses. Undergraduates can visit the JCCL web page for a complete listing of eligible courses.

To obtain a solix account you can "login" to solix as "unixshell" and follow the prompts to create the account. Turn-around time is 24 hours for the new solix account to become active. Accounts for CS labs are generally available about 48 hours after the "unixshell" script is submitted. Additional details about solix ("unixshell") accounts can be found on the FIU user support site.
