Description:
Help teachers, school district personnel choose technology to increase
student performance; guidelines for student and staff usage; purchasing
and district policies; set up a support structure to maintain curriculum and administrative technology.
Reflection:
The most significant thing I learned in this course was the importance of planning for technology. Whether training instructors, technicians or users; planning support strategies and identifying funding to maintain and upgrade equipment; or developing appropriate usage policies; without sufficient thought and planning, good ideas remain in the folder as good ideas.
I have been able to apply my learning about technical support planning to refine and develop my user support group. It was a valuable exercise to analyze how my group functions from a new perspective and then apply current research to build a technology team development plan that took my group to another level of support expertise.
Out of this, I was able to propose a technology plan for my School. While the university had a technology plan at the time, it was limited in scope. Further, my department had no vision for technology use with instruction. Being the Computer Scicence department, it was commonly felt that since the main subject matter was based around technology, there was no need to integrate technology tools into teaching and learning practices. I am proud to say that while my technology plan was not wholly implemented by my department, many of the suggestions and proposals I formulated have been adopted.
