Reflection:
Web Development was my first online course as well as the first course I took in this program. I learned how to use Blackboard as well as how to function in an online community, beyond what I learned about web design. Having had some exposure to programming and technology in my work, I felt somewhat prepared to tackle learning HTML and was excited to see things I created. As an educational technologist I work to develop and maintain a “technical tool kit” which must include a basic understanding of HTML.
The most valuable learning I took with me from this course was focused on how to assess web sites for accessibility and understand the principles for building appropriate web environments. I use this foundation as I evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of web sites I use or sponsor. My staff builds websites for my helpdesk team; my group manages a site for our School; I identify and refer teachers to web environments they can use in class: I can assess these web environments with confidence and make useful and appropriate development suggestions or class integration recommendations.
I finished this course with a firm foundation in HTML and web design. I feel that since I operate in the “WWW” forest, it is essential that I am able to identify some of the trees.
